Finally, I decided to start writing my reviews on movies also on my BLOGnote. Before, I did it only on my old blog. I cannot miss the chance to tell you about my thoughts after seeing "Bohemian Rhapsody".
"Bohemian Rhapsody" is a biographical film about the world-famous British rock band Queen, I would rather say, it is a film about the life of the band's lead vocalist, Freddie Mercury. Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor served as musical and creative consultants during the creation of the film. I liked the film a lot. I am not a big fan of Queen, but I like their songs and I have sang the "Rhapsody"-song for many-many times in karaoke.
Before I got to the cinema, I read not so pleasant reviews on the film. It was said that the character of Freddie Mercury wasn't fully described. It is difficult for me to say whether it's true or not, I never knew Mr Mercury in private. I suppose, such things can be said only when you know one in person. Still, I was afraid I was not going to like it, but all my fears were in vain. I really enjoyed the movie.
Shortly about the plot. A young Indian-British Parsi college student, Farrokh Bulsara (the born name of Freddie Mercury), became a member of the band called Smile, the band changed the name to Queen and began their way to glory. Mercury and the other band's members were very ambitious, lead vocalist had brave and excentrical ideas and their realization was not always simple. At the same time we are shown the singer's love affair with Mary Ostin, how Mercury realized he was bisexual and how it affected his life and career.
I really recommend watching that movie. It is very interesting and breathtaking, without vulgarity, without frank erotic scenes. As I see it, the idea of the film is also not to be afraid of the new ideas, not to be afraid to try new things even if others don't see success in this. It is important not to be afraid, believe in yourself and go for your dream. It is also a film about finding and accepting yourself, the way you are, about glory and that glory is not only success and recognition, it is also intrigues, betrayals and bad habits.
I was very amazed how well the cast was chosen for the band members' roles. They all looked like the real musicians, especially the guitarists. Also actor Rami Malek looked fantastic in the role of legendary singer. It was interesting to watch how the world-known hits were created. And even if not all of it was true, it was enough for me to believe in the story. The actors did amazing job! Whole film passed so soon. There were many amusing but also sad moments. The only thing I didn't like and that I noticed about the film, was that the rest of the band's members were shown too flawless, almost like angels, showing Freddie Mercury as a black sheep.
In the end of film Queen performed in a concert Live Aid at Wembley Stadium. For that scene, the exact replica of stadium was created on an airfield near London. I tell you more. After having watched the film, I watched the original video of the consert and noticed that Rami Malek played Freddie Mercury very precisely at Live Aid, even the smallest moves were exactly the same! Brilliant work! I felt like I was watching the real consert of Queen. I sang with Freddy Mercury and felt the tears slide down my cheeks for the reason the world lost such a talented peson. Freddie Mercury is the legend. So sad he left this world so soon, only at the age of 45.
At last, here is that original video with performance of Queen at Wembley Stadium. I don't know about you, but I have goosebumps running when I listen to this consert. Enjoy!
And what about you? Have you already watched "Bohemian Rhapsody"? Did you like it? Or may be not? Share your impressions with me, I will be happy to read it. :)
